One of ten siblings, his father served in the British military and his mother was a music teacher. The young boy with exotic looks developed strong and enduring values imparted by his parents, and at age 11 he began to study music and learn to play the saxophone.
Tall, dark, handsome and somewhat mysterious, this dynamic performer exploded onto the British music scene with The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dusty Springfield and Tom Jones, and before long "the British invasion" hit the United States and the rest of the world, changing the music industry forever. He is in the Guinness Book of World Records achieving 56 consecutive weeks in the charts with "Release Me," which shot to number 1 in 11 countries, selling 15 million worldwide. Additional top hits include "The Last Waltz," "Quando, Quando, Quando," "A Man Without Love," and "There Goes My Everything," among many, many others.
Engelbert Humperdinck has performed with some of the greatest entertainers in the world and one of his closest friends was Elvis Presley. The two legends often performed each others songs and enjoyed a wonderful friendship. In fact, it was Engelbert who first created the sideburns and tight leather outfits image which became so closely associated with Elvis.
Additional stellar connections include Jimi Hendrix, The Carpenters and Cat Stevens -- interestingly, all of whom opened for Engelbert in the 60's -- Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and, of course, Tom Jones.
Engelbert Humperdinck is the consummate entertainer who performs around the world to sell-out audiences and continually astounds his fans, winning admiration from his peers and critics for his versatility, magnetism and extraordinary vocal range, and selling hit album after album. As Steve Huey of AMG's Allmusic.com puts it, "[Humperdinck] is "one of the finest middle-of-the-road balladeers around, a sensitive lyric interpreter with excellent vocal technique and a three-and-a-half-octave vocal range.
In his illustrious career he has performed for the Queen of England, several Presidents of the United States and many Heads of State. Throughout his lifetime he has given generously of his time in support of charity work and humanitarian concerns.
One of Engelbert's great loves is golf and he recently came in fifth in The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, one of the premier international golf tournaments.
